Makuake at 12 — ¥110B funded, 10M backings, 60 projects over ¥100M

Makuake's 12 years in numbers

The attractive-purchase service Makuake reached its 12th anniversary on August 7, 2025. Per official figures —

  • 10 million cumulative backings.
  • Cumulative funding over ¥110B (it passed ¥100B in November 2024).
  • About 46,000 cumulative projects.
  • 60 projects with over ¥100M in backing each.

Since launching in 2013, Makuake has become the heart of product crowdfunding in Japan, especially for gadgets and appliances — a place to meet new products.

Why it grew this big

Built on All-in funding (it proceeds even short of goal), Makuake drew in manufacturer projects geared for mass production and many reverse-import products. AI grew 3.5× year on year in 2025 (the 2025 recap), and AI devices monopolised the top of early 2026 (the Jan–May market). A shopping experience that layers “support” onto “pre-order” built this scale.

What it means for backers

Milestone numbers show market depth, not the safety of any single project. Makuake is strong for products and new goods, while CAMPFIRE leads on community and project count — each platform has a different character (see CAMPFIRE vs Makuake and the directory). Before backing a physical product, price in manufacturing and shipping risk with how to spot a hot campaign.
