What this is
At around 16:27 on July 28, 2026, an earthquake struck with its epicentre in the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture (the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake, magnitude 7.1, maximum seismic intensity 7). CAMPFIRE launched this official emergency relief fund in response, running it themselves.
Where the money goes
The project page now states that the entire amount raised, less a 5% payment processing fee, goes to victims in Kumamoto Prefecture as Japanese Red Cross Society relief money. (Immediately after the quake the recipient was still undecided; it has since been fixed in this form.)
Where it stands
Against a ¥1M goal it has ¥10,950,113 from 2,056 backers (1,095%) — roughly double our last check on July 30 (986 backers, ¥5,645,100). It is All-in, so funds reach the affected area whether or not the goal is met. Support starts at ¥1,000, and the campaign runs until September 25, 2026 (25 days left).

Disaster relief is judged on both speed and transparency. Here the platform itself is the organiser and states plainly that everything but processing fees goes to relief. That said, the specific allocation of funds is not yet fixed this soon after the quake — with campaigns like this, following through to the later reporting is part of backing responsibly.
