Tour de Sanriku 2026 — 15 years on, beyond recovery (hometown-tax GCF)
Conclusion: a recovery cycling event in Rikuzentakata — GCF (hometown-tax), 85% funded, live (Jun 2026).
Why it matters
Fifteen years after the 2011 disaster, this hometown-tax Government Crowdfunding (GCF) supports “Tour de Sanriku 2026,” a cycling event in Rikuzentakata and Ofunato, Iwate, set for October 2026. It aims to grow participation from 200 to 400 riders and add a new hill-climb time trial. Against a ¥4M goal it has ¥3,394,500 from 163 backers (~85%).
How support works
Because you give as hometown tax, it qualifies for the tax deduction; the runner is Rikuzentakata City (a municipality).
Editor's note
Unlike reward crowdfunding, GCF is run by a municipality and uses tax deductions. It hasn't cleared 100% yet — watch the closing stretch. Check your own deduction limit and the paperwork. Figures as of 2026-06-21; campaign live (closes Jun 30).
